On to the new gallery at the Science Museum to see the Tony Ray-Jones show which completely blew us away. Great work on show and a really well curated exhibitionn. Ray Jones' work is incredible, way ahead of his time and interesting to see it juxtaposed with one of the people he influenced - early B&W work by Martin Parr. Also then, a final section where Parr re-assessed Ray-Jones archive for a 'with hindsight' take on the archive.
A really well thought through exhibition. A joy! (Though I did feel as though I'd done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson by the end! Looking at pictures is exhausting!)
Yesterday the second years had a day of large format photography and block-mounting workshops which ran through the day (with half an eye on future student shows - watch this space!) A very busy day but very worthwhile.
Then today the second years went to the Fox Talbot Museum in Lacock, Wilts. A text from tutor Gina Lundy describes it as a "massive success" though we'll have to wait till next week for details.
