Students Cate Vaughton and Ben Cullen (who also shot the image for the poster) did a great job of hanging the exhibition of images submitted for the poster and rehearsal images in the foyer of the theatre in their Easter break. Well done to them and all involved!

“A soldier came marching along the road: left, right! Left, right!”
Students from the Foundation Degree, Professional Photography at City of Bristol College worked with the outreach and marketing teams at Bristol Old Vic to create a strong image for their new Young Company show, which is based on The Tinderbox by Hans Christian Andersen.
Given a short brief, the students responded by creating and submitting images for consideration by the Old Vic team for use on the website, flyer and poster.
“The image should combine reality and fantasy with nods to magical realism. I am interested in the darker side of the story, combined with the fact it is perhaps a skewed love story. I am interested in epic dark fairy tales and a strong central image.”
Lisa Gregan, Director
A selection of images submitted by Macarena Costan, Ben Cullen, Erfan Mirabedini and Patrick Graham are presented here alongside quotes from Hans Christian Anderson’s Tinderbox that inspired their creation.
Also on display are a selection of photographs by Cate Vaughton and Patrick Graham who worked with the Old Vic Young Company to document rehearsals.

Tacita Dean, artist film-maker and long time champion of chemical photo and film processes makes a poetic case for what she loves about the chemical processes involved in analogue media.
And, here discussing her 2013 piece 'Film' i more depth.
Interesting in relation to our own experiences of darkroom and colour chemical image making.
